2004 Ford F-150 Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Column Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2004 Ford F-150?
A: Start by positioning the vehicle into NEUTRAL mode on a hoist to work on the brake shift interlock actuator of a column shift system. The first step involves eliminating the steering wheel followed by unfastening the two screws which secure the lower dash panel. Initiate by removing the screw securing the lower steering column shroud followed immediately by taking out the two screws on the upper steering column shroud. Disconnect all electrical connectors from the Clock Spring before you can unscrew one bolt to pull out the multi-function switch. You should apply tape onto the Clock Spring to stop it from rotating. Press down on the tabs of the Clock Spring before sliding it off and unscrew the mount bracket with its three screws. The disconnect procedure for the brake shift interlock switch involves removing its electrical connector while releasing the tab to let the brake shift interlock slide downwards for removal. The reverse process for installation should be followed to finish the procedure.
