2004 Ford Mustang Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the battery cables on 2004 Ford Mustang?
A: Service of battery cables starts with battery removal while unplugging any engine heater intermediate connections that may exist. Start by removing the battery ground cable harness bolt attached to the radiator support. After that, release the cable harness locators before separating the electrical connectors of the battery cable harness. A proper service of battery cables requires installing the square terminal from the battery before the round terminal from the generator to deter circuit failures and arcing. Disconnect the battery junction box by removing its nut before setting aside the positive battery cable and generator B+ cable. The vehicle maintenance requires removal of a front support bracket nut which holds the cable harness before placing the bracket to one side. The left upper battery cable bracket from 4.6L 4V vehicles needs a nut removed so it can be placed safely aside. Support the vehicle from above. Also disconnect the block heater plug and harness locators that may be attached to oil pan clips when possible. The oil pressure sender unit electrical connector needs to be disconnected while tightening the negative cable ground nut to prevent ground circuit failure or arcing. Commence by unfastening the battery ground cable nut located at the engine block and proceed to detach generator electrical connectors before putting the cover to one side. The front lower cable harness bracket nuts must be removed to allow cable harness assembly pull-down clearance of the engine/radiator area before final removal of the right engine mount cable harness bracket nut. After removing the starer solenoid cover you should disconnect both electrical connections before pulling the harness forward until it passes the motor mount to eliminate the battery cable harness from the vehicle. The installation process consists of reversing the removal steps yet it is necessary to remember that adaptive learning will occur through vehicle driving after battery disconnecting or reconnecting which could produce abnormal drive symptoms.
