2005 Ford Mustang Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2005 Ford Mustang?
A: The first step to service the battery cables requires the vehicle to be in neutral position on a hoist. The first step includes disconnecting the battery and taking out the cover from the starter solenoid terminal. Follow this step by removing the nut and placing the positive cable terminal of the starter solenoid aside for reinstallation by torquing it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Start by removing the nut securing the starter solenoid wire terminal and put the nut aside while tightening it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) for reinstallation. Keep the battery cable harness bracket in place by means of a bolt tightening to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) during assembly. Extractor the battery cable harness locator which is found behind the left-hand cylinder head then remove the bolt that positions the battery ground cable engine terminal to an open position requiring tightening to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Proceeding next requires removal of the battery cable harness locator both from behind the right-hand cylinder head and from the bulkhead. Tighten the battery ground cable body terminal with 10 Nm (89 lb-in) during reinstallation after you position it aside by removing the bolt. The first step involves disassembling the right-hand strut tower battery cable harness locator then opening the bussed electrical center (BEC) cover for bolt removal which enables setting the BEC terminal aside for subsequent tightening to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). Get the battery cable harness locator out from the engine bracket, place the generator B+ boot to the side, take out the nut, and store the generator B+ terminal aside by tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstallation. The battery installation process begins with removing the battery cables while disconnecting the battery cable in-line connector. Recovery of the BEC and generator B+ terminals happens by performing a reverse procedure of removal.
