2004 Ford Mustang Windshield Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to reseal a windshield on 2004 Ford Mustang?
A: You should start the windshield resealing process by taking out the right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) windshield side garnish mouldings. Press release the pin-type retainers when working on vehicles that have convertibles. The convertibles require first removing visor clip screws then the visor trim moulding followed by screws and sun visors on both sides before disconnecting their electrical connectors. The windscreen servicing process starts by taking out the LH sun visor and its clip which requires their existing screws to be removed. Lower the front part of the headliner while supporting it with proper material. The wiper pivot arms for both LH and RH must be removed after raising them up then releasing the retainers followed by arm detachment. Remove first the cowl grille weather strip and subsequently take out the cowl grille. Apply non-alcohol based glass cleaner on both windshield glass surfaces inside and outside. The end of the urethane adhesive tip needs to be cut properly before using a high-ratio electric or battery-operated caulk gun to spread urethane while making the adhesive form uniform beads evenly across all gaps. Insert urethane adhesive to the windshield top and sides from within the car and to the bottom from outside. After tapping the windshield with a wooden applicator to check for air or water leaks, continue adhesive application if necessary. Allow the urethane adhesive to cure for at least 1 hour before testing. Installation should proceed with the cowl grille followed by the cowl grille weather strip and finally the LH and RH windshield wiper pivot arms. Coupes require headliner front repositioning before installing left and right sun visors together with their corresponding clips using screws for fixation. Convertible owners should mount LH and RH sun visors before screwing them into place while reconnecting electrical connectors. Install the visor trim moulding and visor clip screws together with the step of installing the RH and LH windshield side garnish mouldings using pin-type retainers if they apply. Adjust the wiper blade and pivot arms according to requirements.
