2004 Ford Ranger Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Engine Front Timing Cover on 2004 Ford Ranger?
A: The engine front cover servicing starts with taking off the ground cable from the battery and draining all engine coolant. First remove the accessory drive belt and afterward remove the fan and shroud assembly. Begin service and repair of the engine front cover by taking off the bolts with the coolant pump pulley then separate the fuel tube bracket and wiring harness bracket through their respective nuts. Position the power steering bracket together with compressor away from the mounting bracket after unstudding its bolts. Detach the lower radiator hose from the water pump outlet before extracting the crankshaft front oil seal as well as the oil pan and crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. You should eliminate the engine front cover combined with coolant pump as one unit while disposing the front cover gasket. Complete cleaning of all contact surfaces allows you to install the engine front cover with its new front cover gasket. Sections of the specified bolts need Teflon pipe sealant before their proper installation. Secondly install the oil pan and crankshaft position sensor and crankshaft front oil seal. Attach the lower radiator hose to the water pump outlet while simultaneously readjusting the A/C compressor and power steering bracket. After that place stud bolts into the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Next attach the wiring harness bracket and fuel tube bracket by using the provided nuts before installing the coolant pump pulley and its bolts. To complete the installation the fans along with both shroud assemblies must be reinstalled along with the accessory drive belt and battery ground cable before filling and bleaching the cooling system.
