2004 Mercury Grand Marquis Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Transmission Pan, Gasket, and Filter on 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: Before working on the fluid pan gasket and filter you should place the vehicle in neutral gear on a hoist. The first step to drain transmission fluid requires loosening transmission fluid pan bolts while the fluid drains until complete before removing the bolts. Start by taking off the transmission fluid pan together with its gasket followed by gently pulling down to obtain the transmission fluid filter and seal. Performance this task with the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist while inspecting and cleaning all components of the transmission fluid pan and its gasket and magnet. Before filter installation remove the main control bore seal by using a small screwdriver without causing damage to it. A new filter along with seal installation is necessary in case of contamination-related failure but the filter can be reused when no severe contamination exists. Place the pan magnet inside the fluid pan and install the gasket while checking it for clean and undamaged state. You should install the transmission fluid pan and bolts then add 4.7 liters of clean automatic transmission fluid to the correct level.
