2004 Mercury Marauder Steering Shaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Steering Shaft on 2004 Mercury Marauder?
A: Service and repair operations of the steering column shaft start with aligning the steering wheel toward straight-ahead position. Steering wheel movement must be prevented when the intermediate shaft is detached because this could harm the Clock Spring but if the intermediate shaft moves the Clock Spring needs to be taken out and reoriented. The first step to service the steering column shaft starts with removing the pinch bolt which disconnects the lower intermediate shaft from the upper intermediate shaft before disposing of the bolt. Move on by taking away the pinch bolt that enables detachment of the upper intermediate shaft from the isolator and dispose of the bolt afterward. Insert your fingers under the upper intermediate shaft while removing its seal and bearing along with nuts. First discard the pinch bolt because it connects the lower intermediate shaft to the upper intermediate shaft. The completion of installation requires following the steps in reverse order of removal.
