2004 Mercury Sable Heater Core Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the heater core on 2004 Mercury Sable?
A: The servicing and repairing process of the heater core requires conducting a pressure leak test on a suspected leak before heater core removal. Start the procedure with instrument panel removal then proceed to remove the right-side cowl vent screen. The first step should be unscrewing and removing the water shield while also clamping off and disconnecting the heater hoses. The remote climate control (RCC) module of vehicles with Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) requires its electrical connector disconnected and two nuts removed before disconnecting the vacuum harness and two screws. All vehicles need continued steps that start with removing screws and shield followed by disconnecting the temperature blend door actuator electrical connector and removing the actuator with its screws. Remove the temperature blend door assist spring followed by removing the supplemental temperature blend lever shaft through its tab depression before unattaching it from the supplemental blend door and finally unmounting the supplemental blend door pivot shaft from the metal link. The metal link must be detached from the temperature blend door pivot shaft before removing the heater core cover through unscrewing then rotating and extracting the cover and seal. The blend door pivot shaft should be rotated while you extract the core out of the heater system. The installation process requires the reverse operation of removal steps while adding plain water lubrication to coolant hoses followed by cooling system refilling.
