  Q: How to service and repair the heater core on Mercury Sable?

  The service and repair of the heater core requires conducting a pressure leak test on the component before extraction. Start repairs by taking out the instrument panel then the right-side cowl vent screen and unhitching the water shield through its screws. Suitable hose pinching pliers should be used to clamp and disconnect the heater hoses. When servicing vehicles with Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) it requires disconnecting the electrical connector of the Remote Climate Control (RCC) module followed by removing two nuts as well as disconnecting the vacuum harness while taking out two screws. The second step entails removing screws and shield while disconnecting the temperature Blend Door Actuator's electrical connector and removing both the actuator with its screws. Press and remove the temperature blend door assist spring from the supplemental blend door followed by removal of the supplemental temperature blend lever shaft from the door through its tab depression. Then detach the supplemental blend door pivot shaft from the metal link by rotating it clockwise. Users should avoid bending any part of the supplemental temperature blend door lever during the installation process. To access the temperature blend door pivot shaft remove its metal link while you use screwdriver to remove the heater core cover after rotating the pivot shaft to free the cover with its attached seal. You should remove the heater core by rotating the blend door pivot shaft first and then extracting it from the system. After reversing the uninstallation process you should apply coolant hose lubricant or plain water to the hoses if needed then refill the cooling system.
