- Q: How to service and repair the turbocharger inlet exhaust pipe on 2005 Ford Excursion?A: Start the service or repair of the turbocharger inlet Y-pipe by taking out the turbocharger assembly together with the fuel injector control module bracket from the LH valve cover. Service of the exhaust inlet pipe requires removal of its metal gasket positioned between the exhaust inlet pipe and the EGR cooler followed by loosening the clamp and exhaust inlet pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts on the LH and RH sides. Remove the exhaust inlet pipe assembly from the vehicle by performing it gently. Position the exhaust inlet pipe carefully with unwounded flex bellows in order to avoid distortions of the pipe when lining up with the exhaust manifolds. Start by applying anti-seize lubricant to exhaust inlet pipe bolts before installing them untightened while setting up the metal gasket on the EGR cooler and aligning the pipe with correct clamp specification. Put back the fuel injector control module bracket and turbocharger assembly where you must verify exhaust inlet pipe alignment against the turbocharger and make bracket adjustments for proper positioning when alignment is incorrect. Proper alignment of the exhaust inlet pipe with exhaust manifold requires alternate nut tightening to draw the pipe toward the manifold while maintaining equal spaces at both ends of the flange connection.
