2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the rear parking brake cable on 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: The repair and servicing operations on the rear parking brake cable require operators to completely release the parking brake control alongside the complete release of tension from the parking brake system. Start by slowly pulling the front parking brake cable with its conduit and place a 4 mm (5/32 inch) drill bit or equivalent retainer into the parking brake control. Service and repair of the rear parking brake cable requires tire removal and disconnection of the parking brake intermediate cable from its connector end while separating RH and LH parking brake rear cables at the equalizer point. Squeeze the parking brake cable clip for detachment from its bracket position after first removing the LH parking brake rear cable and conduit to RH parking brake rear cable and conduit clip before detaching the cable from the bracket. Begin by extracting the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit from its fixtures which include the rear parking brake cable retainer together with the RH hydraulic brake line clip and parking brake cable retainer clip after removing the retainer clip bolt. Unclip the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the brake line clip on top of the rear axle housing before releasing the retainer by compression and disconnecting it from the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate then the parking brake lever. To install this system first clip the parking brake rear cable and conduit to the parking brake lever followed by connecting them to the rear disc brake caliper anchor plate then finally clip them to the brake line clip on top of the rear axle housing. The parking brake cable retainer clip together with its bolt must be installed followed by attaching the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit to the RH hydraulic brake line clip before connecting it to the rear parking brake cable retainer. Temper the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit before connecting it to the parking brake cable bracket properly and then hooking it up to the LH parking brake rear cable and conduit clip. Complete the installation by first attaching the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the RH to the LH at the cable equalizer. Then install the intermediate parking brake cable onto the LH rear cable and conduit. Reinstall the front wheels and tires before stretching the front parking brake cable until the retainer releases from the control mechanism.
