  • Q: How to service and repair the lower intake manifold on 2005 Ford F-150?
    A: The service and repair process of the lower intake manifold begins with disconnecting the fuel supply spring lock coupling before taking out the upper intake manifold. The service requires disconnecting the fuel charging wiring harness both from the main engine wiring harness and from the IMRC actuator electrical connectors. Disassembly includes the removal of bolts which functions to extract the fuel rail accompanied by the fuel charging wiring harness while the engine vacuum hose harness stays interconnected. The release of clamps allows you to disconnect the heater outlet hose together with the upper radiator hose and bypass hose and heater inlet hose. The six large and eight small bolts must be detached alongside the lower intake manifold together with its gaskets and front and rear seals. The sealing surfaces should be cleaned with plastic scrapers together with silicone gasket removers and metal surface preps according to the packaging information. A four-minute time limit exists for fastening the lower intake manifold because otherwise the sealants must be removed from the sealing area to avoid oil leaks in the future. Connect the front and rear seals first before applying a silicone gasket and sealant layer to their mounting points then place the intake manifold gaskets. To install the lower intake manifold you need to apply silicone gasket and sealant onto four junctions between the front and rear seals and gaskets. The long bolts must be placed at positions 1, 2, 3, 4, 11 and 12 before tightening them in two steps that start at 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.) then move to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Position the clamps correctly when reattaching the heater inlet hose beside the bypass hose and upper radiator hose and heater outlet hose. Tighten all components of the assembly by securing the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The upper intake manifold installation must start with connecting the IMRC actuator and fuel charging wiring harness to the main engine harness connectors followed by rejoining the fuel supply spring lock coupling and completion of the installation.
