2005 Ford F-350 Super Duty Air Bag Parts Q&A

  • Q: What safety precautions should be taken when servicing the passenger air bag module on 2005 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: The passenger air bag module requires you to use safety glasses during servicing and you should keep the deployment door facing away from your body to prevent harm. You should never put a live air bag module face down and soap and water handwashing is necessary after handling since sodium hydroxide solution exists on the air bag surface which irritates human skin. The air bag module connectors should never be probed to prevent accidental deployment while replacing damaged deployment doors which are shown through discolorations. Both memory saver devices should be avoided and the RCM fuse removal under ON ignition conditions results in warning lamp illumination which indicates normal SRS functionality. The SRS must work without defects before a customer receives their vehicle because repairs can only be made with new components. The process to remove the passenger air bag module includes deactivating the system power, opening the glove compartment, disconnecting the electrical connector and removing retaining hardware through the glove box opening. The deployment door should be gently raised with a 3/8-inch x 4-inch flat head screwdriver before removing the module through its clips. Installation requires the module to be placed inside the instrument panel before securing it with retaining nuts and bolts followed by aligning the deployment door to seat the retaining clips and installing six new offset fasteners and restoring the electrical connection and glove compartment closure and system power-up.
