2005 Ford F-350 Super Duty Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the In-Line Automatic Transmission Filter on 2005 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Use only the in-line transmission fluid filter described by the manufacturer when servicing the filter to avoid damaging the transmission system. The installation of a new in-line fluid filter is required when an overhauled transmission has this original feature. The replacement of new in-line fluid filter kits should be performed if the transmission was originally filterless. Installation of filters or kits must not be performed if you are not doing internal repairs to the system. The in-line transmission fluid filter supplied with new or authorized remanufactured Ford transmissions needs to be used during installation. The procedure begins with raising the vehicle to the hoist at neutral position after removing the lower right side splash shield pushpin. Place the shield aside while proceeding. Before installing the filter you should slice open the tubing shield followed by unclamping the tubing to make a segment of the return line. You must install the filter with its integrated bypass valve within the fluid cooler return line so it faces transmission-side direction with the red arrow facing away from the cooler. The filter installation must exclude all rubber hoses and steel tubing which present more than 60-degree bends. Attach the filtration system with proper hose size then secure all clamps firmly. Replace and reinstall the pushpin after positioning the lower splash shield between the filter and lower radiator core support. Clean up a visible area of the transmission fluid pan and stick on the label. Add new automatic transmission fluid to the correct fluid level before inspecting proper machine operation and exploring the filter for any possible leakage.
