    Q:
How to Properly Install an Automatic Transmission Filter for the 4R100 Transmission on Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
The appropriate steps to service and repair 4R100 automatic transmission include new in-line fluid filter installation for both cases: vehicles with in-line fluid filter after transmission overhaul as well as new in-line fluid filter kit installation on vehicles without the filter. Installation of a new in-line fluid filter kit becomes necessary when the vehicle does not already have this feature. Non-internal servicing does not require installation of either in-line filters or filter kits. A new purchased transmission must be fitted with the provided in-line transmission fluid filter from Ford. Start with hoisting the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear while cutting the rubber hose section according to illustrations. Take caution because the filter contains a bypass valve which must be oriented with the red arrow facing toward the transmission while pointing away from the transmission fluid cooler since the return line delivers fluid from the cooler to the transmission. Damaging the transmission internal components may happen when installation is done incorrectly. Installation of rubber hoses and steel tubing must be avoided if their entrance angle exceeds 60 degrees into the filter. Affix the filter into the rubber hose by using clamps that you will need to tighten completely. Apply the label to indicate the vehicle uses the in-line filter system while filling the transmission with new automatic transmission fluid. Complete verification of the filter operation must follow leak testing on the device.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the In-Line Automatic Transmission Filter on Ford F-350 Super Duty? Posted by Customer
    A:
The specified in-line transmission fluid filter must be used for servicing and repair work because alternate filters may damage the transmission. New in-line fluid filters need installation whenever there was a previous in-line filter present; otherwise use a new in-line fluid filter kit. Cold filters must never be applied to non-internal transmission repairs. Installation of a new or Ford-authorized remanufactured transmission requires the transmission fluid filter which comes as part of the supply. Start the operation by placing the vehicle into NEUTRAL on a hoist and remove the pushpin from the lower right side splash shield before setting it aside. Chop the tubing restrictor to access filter installation points and remove the clamp before cutting part of the return hose. Position the filter in the fluid cooler return line between the red arrow and the transmission pointing toward this direction. The filter contains a bypass valve that requires installation in the specified direction. The filter must not accept any rubber hoses or steel tubing which presents a bend exceeding 60 degrees. The installation requires a properly dimensioned hose section which can be fastened with suitable clamps. Reinstall the pushpin after you position the lower splash shield between the filter and lower radiator core support. Clean a section of the transmission fluid pan that is visible while applying the sticker. Complete the transmission fluid addition with new fluid before checking operation and inspecting the filter for leakage.
