2005 Ford Focus Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2005 Ford Focus?
A: Before servicing or repairing an alternator begin by disconnecting the battery then turning off the engine heat shield with its attaining bolts. The service requires you to take out the upper generator nut for 2.0L and 2.3L engines and the generator heat shield top nut exclusively on the 2.0L PZEV model. First lift the vehicle and secure it in position and afterwards take out the accessory drive splash shield screws. Users must let go of the accessory drive belt tension before removing it from the generator pulley. When working on the 2.0L PZEV it is necessary to remove both the generator heat shield lower nut and the heat shield. You need to disconnect the two air intake tube retainers before taking out the air intake tube assembly. During this procedure the B+ protective cover is temporarily removed for improved visibility and the generator B+ cable nut must get replaced each time it is detached from the generator so you should replace the old nut. Separate the generator nuts and bolt of the 2.0L PZEV vehicles before lowering the automobile and unplugging the generator electrical wire. After retaking both generator nuts the assistant should raise the vehicle for you to remove the engine roll restrictor mount bolt. The generator removal process requires an assistant who should guide the engine forward with the help of a generator. The PZEV generator duct requires a nut torque of 4 Nm when installing. First remove the lower air duct while taking out the nuts for the PZEV and following this with the removal of the bolt for non-PZEV engines. The radial adapter (B+ connection extension) and rear cap need removal before you can take out the radial adapter nut from non-PZEV engines. Finishing the operation requires following the steps of reverse installation.
