How to service the front muffler on 2005 Ford Focus?

The original production exhaust system was built in one piece but two or three pieces can be used during service operations. Ensure you make the correct cutting position on the production exhaust system before converting it to a service section. After setting the vehicle to NEUTRAL position on the hoist keep the exhaust pipe flexible section from extreme bending by using a wrap or splint to support it. Discard exhaust flexible pipe nuts when disconnecting from the muffler assembly but replace them with necessary new studs during the installation process. Cutoff the tailpipe by removing it from the front exhaust hanger insulators before proceeding to cut the exhaust system. Move on to separate the front muffler from front and rear exhaust hanger insulators while taking out the muffler assembly. During installation you should first assemble the front muffler service section before inspecting exhaust hanger insulators for damage or fatigue and replacing damaged units. Position the tailpipe and muffler assembly into the front exhaust hanger insulators before placing the front muffler to the rear hanger and to the front insulators while tightening the new service clamps. The last step involves attaching new gaskets and nuts to link the exhaust flexible pipe with the tailpipe and muffler assembly but avoid extreme flexing or twisting of the exhaust flexible pipe. Next lower the vehicle while removing the exhaust flexible pipe support.
