2005 Ford Focus Windshield Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to reseal the windshield on 2005 Ford Focus?
A: The windshield resealing procedure starts by removing the cowl panel grille before dismantling the left-hand (LH) A-pillar trim panel and right-hand (RH) A-pillar trim panel. When present in the vehicle you need to extract the overhead console and interior lamp while disconnecting their electrical connectors when necessary. Proceed to remove screws and sun visors after opening their covering faces while disengaging their retaining clips. Remove the LH and RH assist handles by opening the covers then rotating their retaining clips 90 degrees. The front portion of the headliner needs to be lowered partially before finding suitable support material. Apply non-alcohol based glass cleaner to clean both inside and outside regions of the windshield glass. A correctly cut urethane adhesive tip should go into a high-ratio electric or battery-operated caulk gun to apply the urethane adhesive so that all gaps become a single continuous bead. Place urethane adhesive on windshield sides and top inside the car while applying it to the bottom outside the vehicle. Perform a minimum one-hour cure test for the urethane adhesive followed by a leak test to determine more urethane adhesive application. Once the urethane adhesive cures you should move the front headliner section into position and you can put back the left hand and right hand assist handles by twisting their retaining clips and cover both assist handles. Affix the LH and RH sun visor retaining clips followed by screw installation of the visors and reinstallation of interior lamps together with electrical connector connection, if present. The installation process ends with reattaching overhead console and cowl panel grille along with the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels.
