2005 Ford Freestyle Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan while ensuring cleanliness during engine repair procedures on 2005 Ford Freestyle?
A: The servicing and repairing process for the oil pan requires a clean operation during engine maintenance to stop foreign materials from causing motor failure. The first step requires positioning the vehicle at a hoist in neutral position. Place the flexible exhaust pipe aside before draining engine oil then re-mount the drain plug using 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.) torque. Start the service by removing the torque converter lower inspection cover and the oil filter followed by its disposal. Begin by unscrewing the two oil pan-to-transaxle bolts along with the oil filter adapter-to-oil pan bolt and finally remove the 15 bolts which secure the oil pan discarding the gasket. When preparing sealing surfaces for installation prevent the use of abrasive tools or scrapers made from metal because plastic scraping tools and metal surface cleaner should be used for cleaning. Position a 10 mm silicon bead sealant on the specified locations before inserting the oil pan with its new gasket and installing the bolts and stud bolts loosely. Drive the oil pan-to-transaxle bolts until they reach 40 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque before moving on to sequence-wise torque-up of the oil pan engine bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The oil filter adapter must be attached to the oil pan bolt before tightening it to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) followed by rotating it to 90 degrees. Install a new oil filter before tightening it to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.) then reattach the exhaust flexible pipe before filling the engine with clean engine oil.
