Oil Pan

Begin pan oil servicing and repairing by securely placing the car in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Start by taking off the front catalytic converter followed by the two bolts which anchor the front catalytic converter bracket. Reinstall the drain plug after draining engine oil while tightening it to 19 ft. lbs (26 Nm). The process starts with removing the oil filter before extracting the torque converter lower inspection cover. The service begins with removing both bolts from the oil pan-to-transaxle connection point along with the oil filter adapter-to-oil pan bolt. The next step requires the removal of fifteen bolts which keep the oil pan in place before trashing the gasket. The installation of the new oil pan requires the use of a plastic scraping tool instead of metal scrapers to clean surfaces and metal surface cleaner for complete cleaning of all sealing areas. Any specified areas should receive 10 mm diameter (0.39 inch) silicone sealant before placing the new gasket oil pan with temporary bolt and stud bolt installation. Then install all oil pan-to-transaxle bolts while torquing them to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) before performing a sequential bolt tightening of oil pan-to-engine bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The oil filter adapter-to-oil pan bolt requires tightening to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) after it reaches 90 degrees of rotation. Install a new oil filter while tightening it to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.) before placing the front catalytic converter bracket and tightening its two bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After installation of a new front catalytic converter you must add new clean engine oil.

Position a 10 mm silicon bead sealant on the specified locations before inserting the oil pan with its new gasket and installing the bolts and stud bolts loosely. Drive the oil pan-to-transaxle bolts until they reach 40 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque before moving on to sequence-wise torque-up of the oil pan engine bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The oil filter adapter must be attached to the oil pan bolt before tightening it to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) followed by rotating it to 90 degrees. Install a new oil filter before tightening it to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.) then reattach the exhaust flexible pipe before filling the engine with clean engine oil.

A clean working environment is essential for oil pan repair because foreign materials can lead to engine failure. Start the service by hoisting the vehicle while it maintains NEUTRAL gear position. Detach the front catalytic converter and its bracket through the removal of two bolts. Reinstall the drain plug after draining the engine oil and tighten it with 26 Nm (19 lb-ft). Clean the sealing surfaces with an appropriate plastic tool before applying a silicone sealant with a 10 mm diameter dot to the required areas. Install the new gasket onto the oil pan and attach its bolts and stud bolts loosely before tightening all oil pan-to-transaxle bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). You must perform bolt torque according to the specified order when securing the engine-to-oil pan bolts with a torque setting of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Fasten the adapter bolt between the oil pan and filter adapter with 40 Nm of torque force before turning it by 90 degrees and repeat the process. First install the new oil filter by tightening it to 16 Nm (12 lb-ft) then proceed with installing and tightening the front catalytic converter bracket along with its 2 bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). The last step involves putting back the front catalytic converter and pouring clean engine oil into the unit.
