2005 Ford Thunderbird Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the vacuum brake booster on 2005 Ford Thunderbird?
A: Service of the vacuum brake booster starts with removing and setting aside the two VMV and bracket assembly nuts then tightening them to 28 Nm (21ft.lb) before reinstalling. The service involves first unfastening the two windshield wiper pivots and then two nuts before tightening everything to 25 Nm during reinstallation. Start the windshield washer hose disconnection before removing the cowl cover panel grille by removing its pin-type retainers together with the rubber trim and the grille itself. You should take out the seven struts that fasten the strut tower support brace and return them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling them. Cut off the degas bottle return hose before taking out the two degas bottle bolts and placing the degas bottle aside at a correct torque of 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Detach the brake master cylinder from its position while removing the brake booster vacuum hose leading to the vacuum check valve. New brake booster-to-brake pedal bracket nuts receive a torque of 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) when installing them. Unhook the brake pedal pin from the brake booster input shaft after you remove its self-locking clip as well as separate the booster rod from the brake pedal. The installation of the brake booster finishes with vehicle removal and backwards execution of the removal steps.
