- Q: How should one service and repair the power seat switch while ensuring safety with an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) on 2005 Lincoln LS?A: Safety glasses are mandatory equipment when servicing or repairing power seat switches on vehicles equipped with air bag supplemental restraint systems (SRS) because accidental deployment can result in injury. Operating near the air bag module connectors should be avoided because the deployment hazard could result in personal injuries. A memory saver device will not be effective for lowering injury risk. When servicing any seat containing SRS components the SRS system needs to be depowered first. When the RCM fuse is detached and the ignition switch turns ON the air bag warning lamp will illuminate but this is normal operation that means there is no fault. Operational and fault-free SRS testing should be completed before returning the vehicle to the customer. Start by deactivating the SRS system and proceed to remove the seat control switch knobs before disconnecting the screws from the side shields upfront and in the rear. Unscrew the seat control switch bezel while leaving out the power lumbar switch when present as an option. The installation requires removing the screw that is behind the seat control switch bezel and disconnecting the seat control switch electrical connector and removing the side shield. Proceed to take out the three screws which secure the seat control switch in place. The installation procedure ends when you follow the removal sequence in reverse order while restarting the SRS system.
