- Q: How can you safely service the front seat cover with an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) on 2005 Lincoln LS?A: Driving safety glasses become essential for servicing the front seat cushion cover on air bag supplemental restraint system-equipped vehicles because it reduces accidental deployment injuries. The connectors attached to the air bag module should never be probed because this action can activate the deployment mechanism and result in personal injury. Perform a complete hand wash with soap and water to remove any trace of the sodium hydroxide substance after deployment happens. Memory saver devices must not be used for safety purposes. Handle the seat seats with care while maintaining an avoidance of inboard side shield or torque tube lifting activities because they can cause damage. Uninstall the air bag power from the SRS system before carrying out any service requiring access to SRS components. The RCM fuse removal activates the air bag warning lamp even when the ignition switch is ON which indicates a normal condition without any fault. A mandatory requirement is to verify that the SRS operates correctly with no faults before giving the vehicle back to the customer. The first step involves taking out the front seat while following this by depowering the SRS system. Start by carefully unlatching the seat control switch knob followed by removal of front and back side screws resulting in the bezel detachment. You must disconnect the power lumbar switch first then remove the screw behind the seat control switch bezel while also disconnecting the seat control switch electrical connector to remove the side shield. Caretakers should remove two manual lumbar adjuster screws together with the manual lumbar knob from the seat cushion pan. Detach the ventilation air upper blower assembly while separating it from the lower blower assembly when necessary. First take away the seat track nuts then remove the wire harness retainer from the seat track-to-cushion stud while unfastening its four seat track-to-cushion nuts which should be tightened to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) torque. The seat cushion needs to be dismounted from the seat track and backrest assembly after disconnecting all essential electrical connectors. Remove the retainers then disconnect the trim cover of the cushion so it separates from its pan, foam pad and climate duct when present. Once the removal process ends, put back the front seat while also enabling the SRS power supply.
