2005 Lincoln Town Car Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel rail on 2005 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Start all service and repair tasks on the fuel rail by preventing smoking and open flames near fuel components because flammable mixtures exist. Disconnect components only when the fuel system pressure is lessened to a safe level followed by removing the ground cable from the battery. The next step requires disconnecting fuel tubes and removing throttle body (TB) together with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module to exhaust manifold tube. The accessory drive belt must be removed first before the generator cable needs disconnecting with its electrical connector and harness pin-type retainer. This step requires generator mounting bracket bolt removal. To remove the crash bracket the technician should first remove the bolt and fuel charging wiring pin-type retainer before disconnecting vacuum tubes and electrical connectors. Proceed with disconnecting the ground connector which is attached to the RH rear stud and the generator harness retainer from the LH front stud while also removing the eight fuel injector electrical connectors. First remove the crankcase ventilation tube then disconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor vacuum tube with its electrical connector along with the two vapor tubes and electrical connector from the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve. Detach the four retaining studs which will enable removal of the fuel rail combined with fuel injectors as an assembly while discarding old O-ring seals. New fuel-resistant O-ring seals should be used during installation while engine oil must be applied to clean fuel injectors before their placement in the fuel rail. Fasten the fuel rail assembly by securing its studs at 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The process ends when you reconnect both vacuum tubes and electrical connector while reinstalling the crash bracket and its bolt and stud. First reconnect both the EVAP canister purge valve electrical connector and vapor tubes then proceed to reconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor vacuum tube and electrical connector. The crankcase ventilation tube and eight fuel injector electrical connectors can be reconnected while the fuel charging pin-type retainer is installed onto the crash bracket. After securing the generator mounting bracket with bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) torque setting you must attach the generator cable and electrical connector and harness pin-type retainer. Connect the ground connector to the RH rear stud while installing the generator harness location retainer to the LH front stud and position the accessory drive belt as well as the EGR system module-to-exhaust manifold tube followed by the TB and fuel tubes before reconnecting the battery ground cable.
