The first step to service the muffler includes positioning the vehicle in neutral gear and hoisting it before starting work. The two exhaust catalytic converter nuts should be removed as well as discarded before installing new nuts and tightening them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). You should take out the U-bolt clamp assembly from the muffler before fitting new components which must be tightened to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) at installation. Remove the current resonator nuts first and dispose of these nuts before reusing new ones that you should secure to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Remove the hanger following the exhaust catalytic converter after which extract both the muffler and exhaust catalytic converter assembly. Follow the reverse installation procedure for the components while applying new gaskets as part of retorque order. The application of oil or grease lubricants leads to damage of rubber material and results in exhaust hanger insulator detachment from its bracket while the vehicle operates.
