Before servicing the muffler you need to position the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear while resting on a hoist. When installing the new nuts tighten them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) after you have already removed the two exhaust catalytic converter nuts. When installing the new U-bolt clamp assembly on the muffler you should apply torque strength of 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). The process starts by removing the two resonator nuts before installing new ones which need to be tightened to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). First remove the hanger for the exhaust catalytic converter then detach the exhaust catalytic converter and muffler as an assembly unit. After separation of muffler from catalytic converter you should install new gaskets before following the reverse removal process. Using oil or grease-based lubricants is prohibited for insulators since this will degrade rubber materials resulting in exhaust hanger insulation failure from its bracket during vehicle operations.

Service operations on the exhaust flexible pipe should start after placing the vehicle into NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Two exhaust catalytic converter nuts need removal before diskarding them while new nuts should be tightened to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) during installation. After removing and disposing of the three nuts securing the exhaust flexible pipe one should install the new nuts to 25 Nm torque (18 lb-ft). The exhaust flexible pipe requires removal together with the exhaust hanger. Reinstallation demands following the opposite order of removal when you add fresh gaskets combined with nuts. Vehicle operation could become dangerous if you apply oil or grease lubricants to insulators since these substances will degrade rubber and allow the exhaust hanger insulator to displace from the exhaust hanger bracket.

Remove and discard the two exhaust catalytic converter nuts, then install new nuts and tighten them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).

Ensure the vehicle is in NEUTRAL and positioned on a hoist.
