- Q: How to Service and Repair the Lumbar Seat Motor of the Power Seat on 2006 Ford Expedition?A: Before beginning any work on the lumbar motor of the power seat one must ensure their safety by using safety glasses along with disabling the supplemental restraint system (SRS) whenever the seat contains side air bags or safety belt pretensioners. Start by position the seat to get to the fasteners before removing the seat at 40 percent and the lower backrest cover. The procedure for removing the head restraint starts with unfastening two screws and removing the securing strap followed by detaching the backrest trim cover hook-and-loop strip and J-clip and pressing the head restraint guide tab to separate the head restraint. Note that the head restraint guides cannot be interchanged. To prevent tearing the foam from the hook-and-loop strip you must carefully pulling the backrest trim cover away from it before flipping the cover and proceeding with removal. Detachment of the backrest foam pad requires caution since hook-and-loop fasteners connect it to the thermo-electric device; pull them apart while removing the padding. Detach the two screws from the inboard support brackets then remove the bracket before disconnecting the lumbar motor cable from the support by flexing it and separating the adjusting cable from the positioning spring. To remove the power lumbar motor start by opening the dampening bag while removing its staples followed by disconnecting the electrical connector and unscrewing two components to detach the motor unit. The installation process ends with reversing the removal steps and installing the 40 percent seat while making sure to activate the SRS system power and test for faults before handing the vehicle back to the customer.
