Take off the rear spring upper plate by first discarding and removing the U-bolt nuts along with the U-bolts. The auxiliary spring along with the spacer should be handled as one assembly when servicing the rear spring units. Position the rear spring while installing the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt and flag nut until they are tight but do not fully tighten them. The installation of the spring-to-front bracket bolt and flag nut should be performed until they become snug but without torquing at this time. Place the spring upper plate before installing U-bolts and nuts and align the U-bolts vertically before tightening them just enough. Use a torque wrench to secure the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt to 225 Nm (166 ft. lbs.) and the spring-to-front bracket bolt to 375 Nm (277 ft. lbs.) when installing vehicles having non-waxed spring brackets, while the recommended torque for vehicles with waxed spring brackets is 300 Nm (222 ft. lbs.). Finally, follow this cross-type pattern to evenly tighten U-bolt nuts in four stages: first to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.), second to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.), third to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.) and finally to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.).
