Ford F-250 Super Duty Leaf Spring Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the leaf spring on F-250 and F-350 on Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: You should start servicing the leaf spring on F-250 and F-350 models by first removing the wheel and tire before supporting the rear axle with a proper jack. You should first dispose of the U-bolt nuts before you proceed to remove both U-bolts and the rear spring upper plate. The service of leaf springs starts with removing the spring-to-front bracket bolt and flagnut and proceeds to eliminate the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt and flagnut. The service of rear springs with auxiliary springs and spacers must be treated as complete rear spring assemblies before complete removal from the vehicle. Place the rear spring into position then put the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt and flagnut until it is tight enough before proceeding. The installation proceeds with adding spring-to-front bracket bolt and flagnut but stops before tightening the hardware. The spring master cylinder receives the upper plate after which technicians must install U-bolts together with nuts while aiming for vertical U-bolt positioning before securing them at loose fitting tension. Use curb height to execute the tightening process starting with the new shackle-to-rear bracket bolt to 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) and proceeding to the new spring-to-front bracket bolt to 515 Nm (340 lb-ft). The procedure requires tightening the new U-bolt nuts in a cross-staged pattern through four steps: Stage 1 to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft), Stage 2 to 100 Nm (74 lb-ft), Stage 3 to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) and ending with Stage 4 to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft). The service ends by installing the wheel and tire.
