2006 Ford Freestar Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2006 Ford Freestar?
A: Service and repair operations for battery cables need battery disconnection as the first step. Begin the service by taking out the bussed electrical center terminal bolt before tightening it at 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when reinstalling. After you disconnect the battery proceed to remove both the 8 pin-type retainers and the radiator support sight shield. After removing the battery ground cable bolt proceed to tighten it to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. Start service by removing the 3 battery cable locators which are attached to the battery cover along with roll restrictor bracket and the starter motor solenoid terminal cover. You should remove the starter motor solenoid battery cable nut and place the cable aside before reinstalling it at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). When finishing the procedure work on the battery ground cable nut by putting it aside but maintain a tight 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) setting. To access the generator B+ cable boot the technician should remove the B+ cable nut while setting the boot to the side before securing it with 8 Nm torque during reinstallation. The generator B+ cable locators should be released before the battery cable assembly can be removed. The process ends by performing the reverse operations that were used for removal during installation.
