- Q: How to service and repair the intermediate parking brake cable on 2006 Ford Freestyle?A: Begin service and repair of the intermediate parking brake cable by loosening the parking brake cable tension. You should eliminate the three subframe parking brake cable bracket bolts followed by securing them to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) torque upon finishing installation. The intermediate cable must be disconnected from the front cable at the cable-to-cable union while removing it from the body bracket. The service requires separation of three components including releasing the intermediate cable from the rear RH cable union and detaching the LH rear cable from the conduit equalizer. The technician needs to unlatch the RH subframe bolts while keeping them in their position. Secure the LH subframe with a screw jack stand positioned on the same side and remove both outer bolts of the subframe from the LH side. A screw jack stand should lower the LH subframe side 120 mm (4.72 inches). To remove the subframe bracket bolt use a 18 Nm torque wrench on the top of the subframe before installing and detaching the intermediate parking brake cable. Reverse the removal steps to check the parking brake system operates as it should after inspecting all components.
