2006 Ford Ranger Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2006 Ford Ranger?
A: Define the beginning phase of timing cover service and repair work by disconnecting the battery ground cable while draining engine coolant. First remove the accessory drive belt then move on to take away the fan and shroud assembly. Start by removing the bolts leading to the coolant pump pulley before detaching both fuel tube bracket and wiring harness bracket through nuts removal. After unbolted nut removal you should place the clamp out of the way before removing the stud bolts from the A/C compressor mounting bracket. After detaching all bolts the power steering bracket together with compressor should be relocated out of the way. Cut off connections between the heater hose and coolant pump as well as the lower radiator hose assembly at its outlet position near the coolant pump and lower intake manifold. Begin removal of the crankshaft front seal together with oil pan and crankshaft position (CKP) sensor which requires disconnecting both the electrical connector and two bolts. Remove the CKP sensor before removing the engine front cover with its associated coolant pump as a single assembly that requires discarding the front cover gasket. Clean all surfaces of the sealing area then set the new front cover gasket in place before mounting the engine front cover. Install bolts on the sealing surfaces while applying PTFE pipe sealant followed by torquing them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Fasten two bolts through the CKP after installing the sensor into position until they reach 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and complete the connection of the CKP sensor electrical connector. Execute the installation of the oil pan together with the crankshaft front seal followed by the connection of lower radiator hose assembly as well as heater hose. The first step involves installing these bolts to the A/C compressor and power steering bracket before tightening them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Secondly, install stud bolts on the A/C compressor mounting bracket and tighten them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs. as well). Place the clamp before installing its nut and apply torque of 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) Then install the wiring harness bracket along with the fuel tube bracket and secure both nuts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Weld the coolant pump pulley using bolts until they achieve 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and then install the fan and shroud assembly and finally the accessory drive belt. Complete the ground cable reinstallation step then fill up the cooling system and perform a bleeding procedure.
