  • Q: How to service and repair the accelerator cable on 2006 Ford Taurus?
A: You must position the accelerator pedal first before starting work on the accelerator cable service. Start by dismounting the accelerator cable from the rubber plunger while pushing the plunger backward to extract the cable from the accelerator pedal. First cut off the two pin-type retainers followed by the accelerator control splash shield. First place the throttle cam to wide open throttle (WOT) position and pull out the accelerator cable slug from the throttle cam. Press the accelerator cable tabs toward you to disconnect the cable from the accelerator cable bracket before you release the pin-type retainers and cut the retaining tie-strap. First eliminate the accelerator cable grommet at the bulkhead before extracting both the accelerator cable. The new cable installation requires performing the reverse steps of removal.
