How to service and repair the accelerator cable on Ford Taurus?

The solution to this is to loosen the accelerator cable by placing the pedal, after which the cable will be pulled off the plunger and pedal. Take out retainers and splash shield, clean out the cable slug and disengage cable with bracket. Take out the grommet and cable and repeat the process but with the new cable.
