- Q: How Can You Safely Service the Front Seat Cover with an Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) on 2006 Lincoln LS?A: A vehicle equipped with air bag SRS requires safety glasses for front seat cushion cover service to prevent injuries from accidental air bag deployment. Probing connectors on air bag modules should always be avoided because it will deploy the air bag system and lead to personal injury. Wash your hands completely with water and soap after deployment since sodium hydroxide deposits will exist on your skin. Memory saver devices should not be deployed for safety purposes. Use appropriate actions when handling the seat since lifting through either the inboard side shield or torque tube could lead to breakage. Service personnel must disable SRS air bag functions before starting to work on any seat that contains components of the SRS system. When you use the ignition switch to test the RCM fuse you will see the air bag warning lamp illuminate but this normal condition does not suggest any fault exists. It is essential to check that the SRS operates without defects before the vehicle returns to customer ownership. The first step involves taking off the front seat while depowering the SRS. First detach the seat control switch knobs before completely removing front and rear side shield screws and separating the seat control switch bezel. The side shield removal requires disconnecting power lumbar switch (if available) and unscrewing behind the seat control switch bezel followed by disconnecting the seat control switch electrical connector. Unfasten the manual knob for the lumbar support as well as the two manual adjustment screws which belong to the seat cushion pan. The process requires users to disconnect the ventilation air - upper from the ventilation air - lower assembly. Start by taking off seat track nuts and then detach wire harness from seat track-to-cushion stud before removing four seat track-to-cushion nuts which need tightening at 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
