2006 Lincoln Navigator Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?
A: The oil pan service requires engine oil drainage before beginning using a hoist and NEUTRAL gear position. The first step requires removing 4 bolts from the frame crossmember while detaching the wire harness bracket. A jack stand must support the front axle housing of 4WD vehicles; write marks on bolts and brackets to help with reinstallation alignment. Proceed with caution to lower the front axle housing while you remove the right-hand front axle housing mounting bolt together with the left-hand front mounting bolt and left-hand rear mounting bolt. The procedure calls for removing the oil pan together with its gasket but the gasket can be reused except when damaged. Use a plastic scraping tool together with silicone gasket remover to clean sealing surfaces without applying any abrasive materials which could cause scratches. Sealant and silicone gasket should be applied to both the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block and engine front cover-to-cylinder block sealing surfaces after which time the silicone should dry according to the specified duration. Loosely attach the oil pan gasket and oil pan with 16 bolts before tightening them in multiple stages according to the sequence of 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.), 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.), then an additional 60° torque. The front axle housing of 4WD vehicles should be positioned to match the designated spots before securing the three bolts with 89 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) torque. Secure the frame crossmember in place by tightening all 4 bolts to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.) and the wire harness bracket with its bolt secured at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The crankcase requires a proper filling of clean engine oil.
