  • Q: How Can You Safely Remove and Reinstall Rear Axle Shaft Components with Rear Air Springs on 2006 Lincoln Town Car?
    A: The air suspension system should have its power disabled before vehicle hoisting or jacking by using the air suspension switch on the left side of the luggage compartment to stop air spring inflation or deflation. Start the procedure with brake caliper removal along with disc replacement followed by wire-based caliper support before moving the rear brake anti-lock sensor to a different position after sensor bolt and sensor removal. Start with differential pinion shaft lock bolt removal before you take off differential housing cover and differential pinion shaft. During the removal of the U-washer through axle shaft inboard motion be careful not to harm the rubber O-ring in the axle shaft U-washer groove. The differential assembly begins with securing the lock bolt only by fingers and then pushing the axle outboard before inserting the pinion shaft and tightening. Detach the axle shaft with no harm done to the wheel bearing oil seal. You must lubricate the lip of the wheel bearing oil seal prior to axle shaft setup while maintaining avoidance of rubber O-ring damage in the U-washer groove. Allethe U-washer onto the axle shaft button end then extend the axle shaft to embed the U-washer inside the side gear. The differential pinion shaft must be installed so its hole aligns with the lock bolt hole before tightening the lock bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Install the differential housing cover followed by a 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.) torque on the rear brake anti-lock sensor before reattaching the rear brake caliper together with its brake disc.
