2006 Lincoln Town Car Ignition Switch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the ignition switch on 2006 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The procedure of servicing and repairing the ignition switch begins with discharging the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Position the ignition switch lock cylinder to RUN before using the suitable tool to push the cylinder release tab upward followed by removing the lock cylinder outward. Start with removing the steering wheel tilt lever and handle before releasing the upper steering column shroud by pressing the sides in. Tighten the three screws that secure the upper and lower steering column shrouds to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.) after reinstalling them. Start by disconnecting the electrical connector from the ignition switch followed by ignition switch screw removal and pulling out the switch unit before installation when the switch requires torque of 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.). The last step includes reversing the removal sequence while enabling power for the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
