2006 Lincoln Town Car Dimmer Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the headlamp dimmer switch and steering column multifunction switch on 2006 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The procedure to service headlamp dimmer switches or steering column multifunction switches requires depowering the supplemental restraint system (SRS) as the starting point. Start by moving the ignition switch lock cylinder to RUN position followed by applying any suitable tool to push the cylinder release tab while extracting the ignition switch lock cylinder away from the housing. The service starts with handle removal and then the upper steering column shroud becomes accessible through side shroud depression. Secure the upper and lower steering column shrouds with the provided three screws at 2 Nm tightening torque when reinstalling. Use a suitable tool to disconnect three electrical connectors attached to the multifunction switch and unscrew two screws holding it in position before tightening the screws to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.) during reinstallation. The installer must return the system back to working condition by powering the SRS.
