2006 Lincoln Town Car Wheel Hub Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the wheel hub and wheel bearing on 2006 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The wheel hub and wheel bearing service requires turning off electrical air suspension power to avoid undesired air spring inflation or deflation during hoisting or jacking or towing because vehicle shifting can result in personal injury. A service of the air suspension system requires engagement of the OFF position on the air suspension service switch. When the vehicle is in NEUTRAL position place it onto a hoist. Locate the wheel speed sensor electrical connector then pull off its rubber splash shield for disconnecting purposes. First cut off the brake hose and then remove the bolts securing the caliper and anchor plate assembly before placing it aside and supporting it with mechanic's wire to prevent brake hose damage. During reinstallation tighten the caliper and anchor plate assembly bolts to 160 Nm which corresponds to (118 ft. lbs.). Remove the brake disc followed by the nuts that stabilize the wheel bearing and hub assembly before any torque applications reach 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.) on reinstallation. The wheel speed sensor wiring must have proper routing in front of the stabilizer bar link to protect against damage and reassembly should include a full seat of the wheel speed sensor electrical connector accompanied by an audible click. You should reposition the rubber splash shield after completion.
