How to service and repair the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the Output Shaft on 2006 Mercury Mariner?

The first step to serve and fix the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor requires placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL on a hoist. The first step includes eliminating the 7 retainers and LH splash shield before tightening all retainers to 10 Nm at 89 inch lbs. during reinstall. First disconnect the OSS electrical connector then remove the OSS sensor bolt to uninstall the OSS sensor. During OSS sensor installation tighten the unit to 12 Nm torque while applying transmission fluid for sealing lubrication then check the O-ring seal for damage before replacing it if necessary. The installation process ends after backward removal steps are done.
