How to service and repair the alternator on 2006 Mercury Mountaineer?

The service and repair of alternators needs the battery to be first detached from the system. The next step is to turn the front end accessory drive belt tensioner counter to its rotation direction which allows you to place the belt safely aside. Proceed by moving away the protective cover while disconnecting the generator B+ terminal nut then tighten it to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) before final installation. Separate the generator B+ terminal and electrical connectors before removing its three bolts that should be secured to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque settings during installation. The generator pulley nut requires removal only if needed when reinstallation should be performed with a torque of 109 Nm (80 lb-ft). Finish installing the equipment through the opposite steps of removal.
