2007 Ford E-250 Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Rear Two-Piece Drive Shaft on 2007 Ford E-250?
A: You should start the service by placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL mode and hoisting it before proceeding with rear two-piece driveshaft repair. The first step involves marking the driveshaft to pinion flange of the rear axle before removing the four bolts that disconnect the driveshaft section. Keep the coupling shaft stable then unfasten its two center bearing bracket bolts. The service procedure for E-450 vehicles requires threading the parking brake, marking all parts and removing 4 coupling driveshaft bolts from the parking brake assembly to split the coupling shaft. The first step for E-350 vehicles includes indexing both the driveshaft flange and transmission before removing the 4 bolts to detach the driveshaft. The index marks serve to guide the driveshaft during installation. Installation of the 4 coupling shaft bolts requires 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.) torque and subsequent brake release for E-450 vehicles. E-350 vehicles require installation of 4 driveshaft bolts which need to be tightened to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.). Following support of the coupling shaft install the center bearing along with bracket then fasten and torque the center bearing bracket bolts to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.). Home or factory new bolts must be used to install the rear driveshaft section but thread sealer applied on original bolts serves as an alternative when no new bolts are available. The driveshaft yoke needs to have tight contact with the pinion flange after correctly positioning it. Following this, you should distribute bolt torque across different locations in a cross grid pattern. You should position the driveshaft flange yoke on the pinion flange with index marks in alignment before installing driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts which must be tightened to 112 Nm (83 ft. lbs.).
