The first step to replace or remove the front bumper cover on Explorer Sport Trac series and Mountaineer requires headlamp assembly removal. Remove the electrical plugs from fog lamps along with side turn signal lamps on models that have this setup. Secondly you must remove front fender inner splash shield screws and pin-type retainers before proceeding to remove inner splash shields. The removal process calls for unscrewing the 2 bolts found under the bumper cover together with removing 6 scrivets that support the grille-to-grille opening panel. The fender clips stay with the front fender but you can use a flat-blade screwdriver to unlock the tabs which are attached to the bumper cover. The Mountaineer bumper cover upper screws must be removed first before rotating its bottom section upward while pressing down on the top portion until all 3 locking tabs disengage. Reinstallation of the front bumper cover requires following the reverse order of uninstallation.
