2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Drive Shaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft for Rear Wheel Drive for One-Piece on 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: You should position the vehicle on a hoist with neutral transmission while preparing to service or repair the one-piece driveshaft which serves the rear wheels of rear-wheel drive vehicles. Prior to parting the components verify that extension housing index marks match those of the driveshaft. The servicing process begins with marking the driveshaft flange to the pinion flange for balance while also marking the transmission output shaft against the transmission extension housing. The four driveshaft flange bolts should be removed before installing new bolts that need to be tightened to 112 Nm (83 ft. lbs.). The driveshaft flange yoke tightly fits onto the pinion flange pilot which means direct hammering should be avoided for both components. A proper tool must engage only the specified area to split the driveshaft flange yoke from the pinion flange. The driveshaft flange must be set directly on the pinion flange by applying even torque to all bolts in a star pattern. New driveshaft flange bolts cannot be obtained so thread the original bolts with Threadlock followed by sealing it. When installing the component simply repeat all actions in the opposite order used for removal.
