2007 Lincoln MKX Fuel Injector Parts Q&A

  • Q: How should one safely service the fuel injector and fuel rail on 2007 Lincoln MKX?
A: Safety protocols require users to keep smoking and open flames away from fuel-related components because flammable fuel mixtures exist in those areas. Prior to disconnecting any fuel tubes or components always perform fuel system pressure release because fuel pressure remains high even though the engine is turned off. Start with removing the battery ground cable before proceeding to let fuel system pressure vent. Begin by detaching the upper intake manifold before disconnecting the fast-connect coupling linking the fuel rail with the fuel tube. Keep going by disconnecting all six fuel injector electrical connectors. You must remove the four fuel rail bolts before taking out the fuel rail assembly with its attached injectors. Replace the twelve fuel injector O-ring seals with new ones exclusively manufactured from special fuel-resistant materials since standard O-rings have the potential to generate leaks. The O-range seals used for upper and lower positions cannot substitute for each other so installing them requires clean engine oil-based lubrication. After installing six fuel injectors with their clips into the fuel rail you should attach the assembly back into its place using four bolts which need to be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). After reconnecting the six fuel injector electrical connectors and fuel tube-to-fuel rail quick connect coupling you should install both the upper intake manifold while reattaching the battery ground cable.
