2007 Lincoln MKZ Power Steering Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2007 Lincoln MKZ?
A: The power steering fluid must be sucked out of the reservoir first to begin servicing the pump using proper suction equipment. The first step should be to disconnect the pump supply hose by releasing its clamp and to remove the accessory drive belt. The electrical harness needs to be detached from the power steering pump stud. When working on the 3.5L engine you need to take off both the power steering fluid reservoir and power steering pump belt. Proceed by disconnecting the power steering pressure switch electrical connector followed by removing the engine block heater electrical harness from the power steering pressure line only if it is present. The technician should disconnect the power steering pressure line from the pump by removing its banjo bolt along with both sealing components but keeping the line. During reinstallation maintain the tightness of the banjo bolt at 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Fasten the power steering pump using three bolts at 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque and keep this tightness for installation. New banjo bolt installation together with fresh seals are mandatory whenever disconnecting or reconnecting the power steering pressure line to the pump. The process ends with filling the power steering system.
