2007 Lincoln MKZ Tie Rod Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the inner tie rod on 2007 Lincoln MKZ?
A: The servicing process of the inner tie rod begins with removing the steering gear followed by marking the pinion shaft and steering gear housing because these markings will help proper reinstallation. Protective measures should be taken to install the steering gear into a vise made of soft material which avoids harm to the system. Loosen the tie-rod end jam nut followed by removing the outer tie-rod end but tighten it to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) after installing it. The right-hand inner tie-rod end requires both bellows boots removal for servicing because service requires uninstallation of the four bellow clamps and the two steering gear bellows boots. Utilize a proper wrench to maintain the piston shaft position before you take out the inner tie-rod end. The later installation must include tightening this component to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.). After tightening the inner tie rod end with the piston shaft grasped firmly ensure that the new rock washer gets properly crimped. The installation ends by following the reverse steps of removal.
