2007 Lincoln Town Car Fuel Injector Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Safety and Properly Service the Fuel Injector on 2007 Lincoln Town Car?
A: You should avoid both smoking and open flames when servicing the fuel rail because its components contain flammable mixtures. A relief of fuel system pressure should occur before disconnecting components because fuel could otherwise spray accidentally. Set the vehicle on a hoist while in neutral and remove its battery ground cable. The service starts with disconnecting the fuel tube spring lock coupling from the fuel rail before removing the throttle body and exhaust gas recirculation system module to exhaust manifold tube. The mechanic should move to the side the brake booster vacuum line and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve tube in addition to the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) pipe and the intake manifold vacuum line which are near the throttle body spacer. To access the crash bracket device professionals should detach the wire harness retainer before taking out the bolt screws. Before proceeding disconnect both the wire harness retainer from the LH front fuel rail stud bolt and the eight fuel injector electrical connectors as well as the ground connector from the RH rear fuel rail stud bolt. The service technician needs to disconnect all vacuum and electrical connectors from the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor together with the EGR system module. Start by removing the two bolts which attach the intake manifold shield along with the shield itself before finishing with the four bolt removal from the fuel rail. The assembly comprising fuel rail and injectors should be extracted from the system while using special fuel-resistant O-ring seals instead of standard ones because standard O-rings cause leaks. Before doing the installation push out the old O-ring seals and apply engine oil to the newly installed O-ring seals followed by the backward process of removal. The technician must tighten the crash bracket bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) and the intake manifold shield bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) and the fuel rail stud bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
