- Q: How to service the RH camshaft on 2007 Mercury Montego?A: The service procedure for the RH camshaft starts with timing drive components removal. A proper numbering system is used to reinstall cylinder head camshaft bearing caps where original locations matter most. In such cases where we cannot see the numbers we need to create markings before taking away the caps. The specified sequence of bolt loosening on the RH camshaft enables camshafts to rise out of the cylinder head before removing both camshaft bearing and thrust caps. Clean engine oil should be used for camshaft lubrication before installing them into the cylinder head while maintaining the correct alignment. Engine damage occurs when camshaft caps do not replace their initial positions while you must install the camshaft journal thrust caps only after placing all camshaft bearing caps to prevent damage. Apply clean engine oil to each bearing surface on the camshaft bearing caps before installing them with bolts that should be loosely torqued. Before installation apply lubricate oil to both bearing surfaces of the camshaft thrust caps and place them with the bolts remaining loosely installed. Before reinstalling the timing drive components, securely tighten all bolts in the specified order to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
